Inspired by the serene beauty of the North Cornish coastline, this print showcases the dramatic ruins of a former tin mine perched on cliff tops, surrounded by heather and gorse. Situated between Porthtowan and St Agnes, the location is a stunning backdrop to Liz’s photograph, taken on a sunny September afternoon in 2020 during her coastal walk. Enchanted by the strong architectural structure set against the wild ocean, Liz decided to transform this photograph into a print.
Liz began the printmaking process in March 2021, using a complex technique involving hand-cut paper stencils and printing rollers. This meticulous method, requiring the careful application of 24 layers of ink, was a significant challenge but one Liz eagerly embraced. After an extensive month of printing, Liz produced a limited edition of 8 original prints—her lucky number—which sold out quickly.
This new digitally reproduced edition captures the print’s rich texture and detail, transporting you to the rugged Cornish landscape. The print features an ambiguous couple walking in the foreground, allowing viewers to imagine themselves or their loved ones in this breathtaking setting.
Handmade by Liz, founder of Slow Sunday, in her Bristol studio, this artwork has been reproduced in various sizes from A3 to A1. Each print is carefully packaged with a handwritten thank you note, which can be personalized if you’re buying as a gift.
